MAYU KAWATA, MT-BC, HHP (2011), music therapy. Board-Certified Music Therapist and Holistic Health Practitioner. Bachelor of Music, Music Therapy, Berklee College of Music. Mayu is a multi-modal artist, teacher, entrepreneur and therapist, originally from Tokyo, Japan. Her clients have included children with special needs, women in empowerment groups, and corporate executives. Mayu’s approach is very client-centered, and she uses improvisational as well as planned music therapy treatment protocols to help the clients meet their social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual goals. During her clinical training at the Community Music Center of Boston, Mayu provided music therapy services to clients in a psychiatric hospital, a homeless shelter, centers for adults with developmental disabilities, and an at-risk youth program, as well as toddler groups. Mayu is happy to join Ian Wilkerson at CMC and at Bay Area Music Therapy, and also as a background vocalist in the Ian Franklin band. As a singer and songwriter, Mayu has been featured on over 20 releases Japan, Europe, and the US. She is also the owner of Mama Goddess LLC, an online store supporting women and families to have healthy, natural births.

Clinical training, Community Music Center of Boston, MA. Person-centered therapist and teacher specializing in supporting creativity, self-expression and self-empowerment. In private practice Wilkerson owns Bay Area Music Therapy with three satellite studio office locations: Santa Rosa, Oakland and San Francisco. Also a recording and performing artist and band-leader: Ian Franklin Band (eclectic pop-rock), W.I.S.H. (ambient tribal rock) and Cop The Idiom (folk-hop).
